Interplanetary trajectory of CMEs Catalog

Catalog of Earth-directed CME trajectories calculated by the piston-shock model. The errors associated with the model are described here.

The equations of piston-shock model to compute CME trajecturies are shown here.

There is a library of IDL(GDL compatible) scripts to solve the piston-shock model's equations; for further details write to p.coronaromero@igeofisica.unam.mx.

This catalog is in permanent development and its original version can be found at  P. Corona-Romero et.al. [2017] "Calculating travel times and arrival speeds of CMEs to Earth: An analytic tool for space weather forecasting", Space Weather, 15.

An additional catalog of associated shock wave trajectories is under preparation.

Descrition:
  • LASCO detection: Describes the data and hour at which a CME was first observed in coronograph images according the LASCO CME Catalog.
  • Input parameters: data required by piston-shock model to compute CME trajectories from near the Sun to the orbit of Earth.
    • Flare rise time: time period of the X-ray flux from the start up to the maxium peak for the assocated solar flare.
    • In-situ solar wind: density and speed of protons in-situ registerd at 1 Astronomical Unit.
    • CME initial values: initial position and speed of the CME leading edge calculated by coronograph images.
  • Free parameter "c": the only free paramter for the model.
  • Comparisson between travel tiems and arrival speeds for in-situ registerd values and analytically computed ones.
